Food for thought!
Eat
Healthy. Stay Healthy
You are what you eat. The most important consideration
for all of us is good health. To stay healthy, the body needs enough
of the right kinds of food. This means eating a range of foods that
provide a good balance of the main dietary components.
Balancing your Diet
A balanced diet is essential to maintaining
good health. Enjoying a meal at McDonald's means enjoying a variety
of items from the basic food groups: breads, fruits, vegetables and/or
meat and fish.
Leafy vegetables: Are high in fibre, minerals and vitamins, but
low in calories.
Breads: These high carbohydrate foods are packed with energy and
fuel the body.
Fruits: They are full of the wholesome goodness of vitamins and
other essential nutrients.
Meat & Fish: Both of these are high in protein and low in calories.
Food as Fuel
Similar to other machines, the body machine
also requires fuel. Its fuel is food, which contains energy to drive
life processes and raw materials for body growth and maintenance.
To get on with the daily grind, your body needs calories. As a thumb
rule each person needs 33 calories per day per kg of body weight.
Always remember, of the total daily calories needed by each person,
10% to 15% should come from proteins, less than 30% from fats and
the balance from carbohydrates.
